Where my friends and I did most of our thrifting in high school and beyond. It just closed this week and no one seems to know why. what.a.bummer.
Back in September, my brother-in-law, A.J. sent me a message
“hey, hey - there is a penguins home game the day of your sister’s birthday. Did you and Steve want to join us? It’s a Friday night”
Being from Youngstown and being where Sam and AJ live now, I thought he was talking about the YSU Penguins. Despite that, I thought it would be selfish to say no just because it was YSU and college football, it was going to be Sam’s birthday and family is important. I told him Steve and I could join him, sure.
Two weeks ago, things got cleared up by Samantha. We were having confusing conversations about her birthday and I kept saying stuff about Y-town and she kept saying stuff about Pittsburgh. She laughed when I explained my confusion. In my defense, most people here call the Penguins the Pens, and that only added to my confusion.
So on Friday I finally went to my first Penguins game (sad, seeing as how I have been living in Pittsburgh 4.5 years) and it was great. We won 3-1 and I was able to hear the “honking buzzer” go off six times (there were two goals that weren’t ‘legal’ and a final buzzer at the end of the night). We also got to witness a short fight, a penalty goal, and lots of hockey sticks breaking.

Eric and Stephanie’s wedding went off without a hitch and it stayed dry the whole day!
This is the most amazing and absurd cookie table (see here if you are unfamiliar - the sources list some fun articles, too). I ate too many to be comfortable in my bridesmaids dress and opted not to take any home.
This was a huge mistake.
(amazing and absurd because it was just SO BIG)
We had a day to kill between the rehearsal and the wedding so we hit up the Village Thrift and then met my dad to go to one of his favorite places, the oaks (I can be seen sporting one of their shirts in this picture).
On our way there we drove threw his old neighborhood on the East Side of Youngstown so he could show Steve how far he once walked as a two year old. My grandfather was “watching him” and he managed to walk a good half mile before someone thought better of letting a toddler walk around alone.
Anyways, the most important point is that the burgers at the Oaks are incredibly yum.
